Cybex car seats are known for their sleek design and premium fabrics — but that also means they show every stain and need careful handling when it comes to cleaning. Whether you have an Aton infant carrier, a Sirona rotating seat, a Solution highback booster, or a Pallas — this guide covers the safe way to clean each one.
How to clean a Cybex Aton (infant carrier)
The Aton range (Aton 5, Aton M, Aton S2, Aton B2) is the infant carrier that clips onto your travel system. It’s often the most stained car seat in the house because newborns produce an astonishing amount of milk spit-up.
Cover removal: The Aton cover is held by elastic loops hooked around the shell. Unhook each loop, unthread the harness through the shoulder slots, and the cover lifts away. The sun canopy unclips separately.
Washing: Cybex Aton covers can be machine washed at 30°C on a gentle cycle. No fabric softener, no tumble drying. The harness pads slip off and can be hand washed.
Harness straps: Wipe only with a damp cloth. Never submerge Cybex harness straps in water — this is clearly stated in their manual and weakens the safety webbing.
Shell: Vacuum crumbs from every crevice, then wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Pay particular attention to the area where the harness routing slots are — milk pools here.
How to clean a Cybex Sirona (rotating seat)
The Sirona (Sirona S, Sirona Z, Sirona T i-Size) is Cybex’s 360-degree rotating toddler seat. The rotation mechanism makes cleaning slightly more complex — you need to be careful not to get moisture into the spin base.
Cover removal: The Sirona cover has clips at the base and elastic loops around the back. The headrest cover removes separately — look for small clips at the back of the headrest. You’ll need to unthread the harness through the cover before it comes off fully. Take photos of the harness routing before you start.
Washing: Sirona covers can be machine washed at 30°C. The headrest cover and newborn inlay (if still used) wash separately. Never use fabric softener.
Rotation mechanism: Wipe the base unit with a damp cloth only. Don’t spray cleaning products into the rotation mechanism or use excessive water around the spin joint. If crumbs are jammed in the rotation, use a vacuum nozzle.
Reassembly tip: When refitting the cover, make sure it sits completely flat under the harness. Any bunching affects how the harness sits against your child’s body.
How to clean a Cybex Solution (highback booster)
The Solution range (Solution S, Solution Z, Solution T) is a highback booster with no harness — your child uses the car’s seatbelt. This makes it simpler to clean than the harnessed models.
Cover removal: The cover usually pulls off after unhooking elastic loops and clips at the base. The headrest cover removes separately on most models.
Washing: Machine wash at 30°C, gentle cycle, no fabric softener. The lack of harness slots makes the cover much easier to get on and off.
The headrest: The adjustable headrest collects a surprising amount of hair, sweat, and general grime. Remove the headrest cover and wash it. Wipe the plastic headrest mechanism with a damp cloth.
How to clean a Cybex Pallas
The Pallas uses an impact shield (bumper bar) instead of a harness for younger children. Clean the impact shield with warm soapy water and a cloth — food and drink spills collect in the crevice where the shield meets the seat. The seat cover removes and washes the same way as the Solution range.
General Cybex cleaning tips
- Cybex PLUS fabric (found on premium models) is more stain-resistant than standard fabric but still needs proper care. Don’t use abrasive cleaners.
- Dark Cybex fabrics show dried milk and sunscreen marks clearly. A 50/50 water and white vinegar wipe removes most of these without damaging the fabric.
- Bicarbonate of soda paste is your best friend for stubborn stains on Cybex covers. Apply, leave 15 minutes, brush off, then wash.
- Never use bleach on any Cybex product.
- Dry covers flat in indirect sunlight or air dry indoors. Never tumble dry.
