Not all prams are worth buying used, and not all are worth reselling. A handful of premium brands hold their value remarkably well, which makes them the smartest prams to buy second-hand and the easiest to sell on when you are done. Here are the ones that keep their value, and why.
Why some prams hold value
Three things keep a pram's resale price up: brand strength, build quality, and demand for spare parts and accessories. A well-built pram from a brand parents trust will sell quickly second-hand, because the next buyer knows it will last through another child. Cheaper prams, by contrast, are often barely worth reselling. The premium brands below routinely sell for a third to a half of their new price, even after a couple of years of use. For the wider case on buying used, see used pram vs new.
The brands that hold value best
Bugaboo
The benchmark for resale value. A Bugaboo Fox or Cameleon holds its price better than almost anything else on the market, helped by strong demand and a large accessory ecosystem. Looked after well, they sell fast. See how to clean a Bugaboo.
iCandy
British, premium, and consistently sought after second-hand. The Peach in particular retains value, and the convertible configurations appeal to growing families. iCandy fabrics are sponge-clean only, which is worth knowing before you buy. See how to clean an iCandy.
UPPAbaby
The Vista and Cruz hold value well, partly because they convert to double configurations that parents specifically search for. See how to clean an UPPAbaby.
Stokke
The Xplory is distinctive and premium, with a loyal following that keeps used prices high. It is less common on the used market, which works in a seller's favour.
Silver Cross
A heritage British name. Classic coach-built models hold value as collectibles, and modern travel systems resell steadily. See how to clean a Silver Cross.
Egg and Egg2
Design-led and increasingly popular. The Egg holds value well thanks to its distinctive look and strong brand following.
Babyzen YOYO
The compact travel pram parents pay a premium for, new and used. Cabin-size convenience and city demand keep resale strong. See how to clean a YOYO.
What kills resale value
Even a premium pram loses value fast if:
- The fabric is stained or smells. This is the single biggest price killer, and the easiest to fix with a proper clean. See how to clean a second-hand pram, or book our pram cleaning service.
- Parts are missing. A pram without its rain cover, adapters or carrycot sells for far less.
- There is visible mould. Buyers walk away from mould, even treatable mould.
- The frame is scuffed or the wheels are worn.
The lesson for sellers: a deep clean before you list can add more to the sale price than it costs. The lesson for buyers: a pram marked down for stains or smell, with a sound frame, is often the best value on the market once cleaned.
How to buy and sell smart
- Value off real sold prices, not RRP. Check what these prams actually sell for on eBay sold listings, Facebook Marketplace and Vinted.
- Buy the model marked down for cosmetic reasons, then clean it.
- If you are selling, clean it first and photograph it well. Presentation is most of the price.
- Buy the brands above and you protect your money twice: a lower entry price used, and a stronger resale when you are done.
